I am thinking of doing a ride from lands end to john o groats on a moped, yes a moped 50cc, it will be in aid of BBACA, British Bikers Against Child Abuse, it will consist of 5 riders doing a relay to cover the distance in the shortist time, maybe get into the record book as well. I hope i can count on your support with this mad idea.
I am looking to do this in the summer of 2012 as its going to take a lot of work to get this a reality and raise money for the kids who need it.
More info to follow as i get it
This sounds like a good idea Pete.
I would suggest you search the internet for cyclists who do this route. A moped would be more suited to the route that they take. There is lots of information on the internet. look for the CTC Forum and then go down to LEJOG. It is a forum for cyclists doing the route. Their is loads of info by people who either doing it or have done it.
I hope this helps.
Keep us informed.
I had a go a this this Summer in aid of Cancer Research on a little Peugeot moped. Setting off from Gloucestershire I made it to JoG in three days using standard A roads. If you are prepared to put in some long days, then 250 miles a day is quite achievable. I never made it to Lands End though, the little bike died from a terminal ignition failure at Glasgow on the way back South. The roads in Scotland are spectacular, particularly the A9 through the Highlands. All I can say is go for it and you will have a whale of a time. Be warned though it rains in Scotland. A lot!
